Monkey King on His Journey to the West – Mr Zhang Jinlai visits KongZi Institute University of Malaya

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On Nov 21st, China famous artist, Mr. Liuxiaolingtong visited Kong Zi Institute University of Malaya, and delivered a brilliant lecture on “The Connection between Liuxiaolingtong and Malaysia, the West Journey Culture for Monkey King” to more than 300 students and the public who love the series “Journey to the West”.

At the start of the lecture, Mr. Liuxiaolingtong spoke on his indissoluble bond with Malaysia for the past 30 years. He noted that Sun Wukong is the paragon of the combination of Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism and he should be the role model that everyone should learn from. He said he spent the first half of his life playing Monkey drama, and will spend the rest of his life to promote the “Monkey culture” of China. And the essence of “Monkey culture” is that a person should dedicate his/her life to the work he/she loves, just like Xuan Zang and his three disciples. He said Sun Wukong is loyal, brave, smart, unyielding and eternally optimistic and these are some essential aspects of the Chinese character, he encouraged students inherit these inspirits in future life to achieve their goals in studying and working. After the lecture, Liuxiaolingtong showed the typical emotional facial expression and action of Sun Wukong, and performed with his “golden cudgel”. The audience was fascinated by his superb performance.

Mr. Chen Zhong, Chinese Director of Kong Zi Institute UM noted in his opening speech mentioned that the “Journey to the West” is a classic TV series that widely popular among different generations. Meanwhile, it is a successful example of Chinese culture spreading, and a precedent of cross-cultural communication. This is consistent with the work done by Kong Zi Institute.

       美猴王的西游文化之路

11月21日晚上七点半,中国著名表演艺术家六小龄童先生在马来亚大学孔子学院举办了一场题为“六小龄童与马来西亚的情缘-美猴王的西游文化之路”的讲座,吸引了马来西亚三百多名热爱《西游记》的大学生及社会人士前来参与。

六小龄童先生回顾了他与马来西亚在过去近三十年里结下的不解之缘。同时提到 孙悟空是儒释道三教合一的典范,是我们每个人生活中应该学习的楷模。他表示自己前半生都在表演中国的猴戏,后半生希望传播中国的猴文化。而猴文化的精髓就是 一个人一生要终其所有做好一件事,就像《西游记》里的师徒四人,谁也不能替代谁每个人只要在自己的擅长的领域里努力奋斗,都会学有所成。他一再强调所有观众对他的认可,不是张氏家族的成就,而是大家对中国戏剧文化的认可。六小龄童先生以孙悟空从石猴发展成为斗战胜佛的过程,鼓励在场的大学生积极学习中国传统文化并大胆突破创新,拼搏进取。同时保持乐观积极的人生态度。 随后,六小龄童先生在现场即兴表演了孙悟空喜怒哀乐的表情及动作,并用金箍棒做了一段精彩的猴棍表演,引起现场观众的阵阵掌声。
