Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year 2013 is very important to the people of China and it will be one of the most important holidays that are noted on the Chinese calendar. Chinese New Year is what marks the end of the winter season. It ends with the traditional Lantern Festival.

CNY 2013 will be celebrated by many different countries and areas aside from China itself including: Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, as well as many other places. Chinese New Year 2013 will be celebrated in all areas where there are a large number of Chinese residents and inhabitants.

Traditions & Customs of CNY 2013

There are many different traditions that are associated with the Chinese New Year. Many people will give each other gifts; as a symbol of their love and celebration ideals.

For Chinese New Year 2013, the individuals celebrating will also decorate extensively, celebrate with an abundance of food and wear ornate clothing. This is all in celebration of the big holiday. The idea of Chinese New Year is to let go of grudges and to reconcile; there is also the idea that it is important to wish peace and happiness to anyone and everyone.

The food during Chinese New Year is rich and plenty and includes pork, duck, chicken and sweets. Red is a big color during this holiday. Red is used in the color of envelopes that children receive on the morning to hold money that their parents have given them after the children have wished their parents a happy and healthy new year.

Red is also seen on the decorations that are used during the festivals on the holiday. Another example of red being used during this time is is paper cutouts and couplets that adorn windows and doors. Along with the red coloring, many of these decorating items also include words and phrases that exclaim good fortune and happiness. The date for CNY 2013 is Sunday, February 10, 2013.
